Are the lake levels changing?

How property owners experience the lake levels today is NOT changing.

At the circuit court hearing on September 29, 2023, the judge will review a petition to amend the lake level order for Lake Lancer and Lake Lancelot. The Sugar Springs Lake Authority seeks to do the following:

  1. Update the boundaries of the existing special assessment district. This is to ensure all parcels (properties) that benefit from the lakes are included. There are a few parcels to add and some to remove.

  2. Update the order to use more modern measurement standards. The current lake level order uses feet above sea level, but modern lake level orders use the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). This is akin to converting from inches to centimeters for example.

  3. Allow for variations in the lake levels. It is challenging to keep lakes at exact levels year-round due to weather. This will add language that allows the normal level to fall within a range of values.
